To Market, To Market....
"To market, to market, to buy a fat pig..."
To market, to market, to buy a fat pig,
Home again, home again, dancing a jig;
To market, to market, to buy a fat hog;
Home again, home again, jiggety-jog;
To market, to market, to buy a plum bun,
Home again, home again, market is done.
Alternate version:
To market, to market, to buy a fat pig;
Home again, home again, dancing a jig.
To market, to market, to buy a fat hog;
Home again, home again, jiggety-jog.
According to America's Positivity Guru - Brian Norris,
"Marketing is a four step process that begins with analyzing and defining a qualified universe of potential users or buyers. After this first phase in the marketing process, a true marketing effort succeeds in capturing the attention of the intended buyers within the targeted universe. Third, systematic effort must be put into getting the prospects to accept the concepts or propositions being offered via the marketing effort. Finally, with all three of the previous steps achieved, the marketer must convert the prospective buyer into an actual buyer by getting them to take the desired action (purchase, rent, call, download, subscribe, refer, sell, follow the law, become a member, etc.)."
He continues to add, "Simply, if it doesn't facilitate a "sale" then it's not marketing."
Our trusted friend Wikipedia tells us that, Advertising is a form of communication whose purpose is to inform potential customers about products and services and how to obtain and use them. Many advertisements are also designed to generate increased consumption of those products and services through the creation and reinforcement of brand image and brand loyalty. For these purposes advertisements often contain both factual information and persuasive messages.
So, Advertising it appears is a component of marketing, but marketing is not a component of advertising! Advertising is simply a case of the squeaky wheel gets the grease! It is the very wearing down of the barriers that allow the marketing platforms to generate sales!
LET US NOW TAKE A LOOK AT TYPES OF MARKETING:
1.Network Marketing : (this saw the rise of the home party plan method of spreading the word)! It can also be viewed as word of mouth marketing - You know the old adage, when you have a good experience you share it with one person, when you have a bad experience you share it with 10?
2. Mullti-level Marketing
Out crop of network marketing. Involves the trickle down effect commonly referred to as Spill Over. This how a lot people got suckered into multi-tier programs, the whole idea of we will build your left leg and you are responsible for the right leg!
3. Internet Marketing, (Online Marketing/E-marketing)
Using the internet to get the word out relative to your products or services. I a reminded of a quote by Bill Gates, which I now loosely paraphrase, There are two types of businesses, those that are online and those that are out of business!
5. Offline Marketing
Refers to HighWay Banners, Posters, Flyers, Business Cards, Meet ups, Meet and Greets. In this category word of mouth plays a huge role and hence the evolution of MLM/Network Marketing and Direct Sales!
6. Social Marketing & Social Media Marketing:
Well this is all the rage with the new web 2.0 phenomenon! It is pretty much dub dub dub on steroids!
Article Marketing:
Ah....to hub or not to hub, that is the question! Write what you will, about what you want and that you love and you are sure to get exposure!
It thus appears that marketing is a strategic and sensible method of getting the word relative to your product and service!
As for advertising...I haven't a positive thing to say, infact when I think of the subject the ony thing that comes to mind is that aflac duck comercial....so annoying. That to me is the essence of advertising...to annoy the heck out of one. It is driving to crazy to buy....ha ha ha ha!
